Bhrigu lake is a glacial lake named after renowned sage Bhrigu Rishi. This lake is on the mountain ranges of Pir-Panjal situated towards the south of Rohtang Pass. It’s a sacred lake as Maharishi Bhrigu used to mediate near the lake. All local devtas of the Kullu region take holy dip in its sacred waters of Bhrigu lake.
Trek to Bhrigu Lake can be done from two sides, from East trek starts from Gulaba or from west side through Vashisht. Round Trip through Gulaba is around 24 kms and takes 3 day and 2 nights. Trek is bit taxing and Steep but rewarding, as you get to witness the bird-eye views of entire Beas Valley and Solang Valley from the top. Since Bhrigu is an High altitude trek we added an acclimatization day at Manali. On Day 2 we start with a shared taxi ride on the Manali Rohtang highway to highlands of Gulaba which is around 25 kms from Manali. From Gulaba its around 8 km trek, trail toward the lake goes towards east through the forests and then the meadows. Today we camp under the stars at the camp site of Rola Kholi. Since there is no Woodstock around the campsite, Campfire is not possible at Rola Kholi.
Next day, we do a day hike to Bhrigu lake (14100 feet) and come back to the campsite at Rolla Kholi. No tree line and steep meadows make the trek little taxing but the views are all open. Half way we hit a ridge and just across the ridge is the lake. There is a rocky patch just before the final ascend to the lake, you will have to be extremely careful in this section of the trek as all the rocks are not firm some of them tend to move as you step on them.
Final day is a easy decent to Gulaba where taxi will be waiting for you and drop you back at Manali for departure to your destination.
